The Way of Salvation

Why do you need to hear good news?

Maybe you've asked yourself questions like: What happens when I die?.....Is there a God?....Why was I born?....

Have I been good enough to go to heaven?....

These are all good questions. The Bible teaches us that God made man. God created man on a perfect earth with no sickness and no death. God gave Adam (the first man) and Eve (the first woman) only one law that they were not to break. God told them that if they disobeyed the one law that death would be their punishment. You guessed it, Adam and Eve disobeyed God and broke God's law.

Romans 5:12 says, "Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:"

Adam's sin caused death to be passed upon all men. Every man and woman since Adam and Eve have to face a world that is full of death, suffering, and pain. The sin nature (the fact that we all sin) has been passed on to every man, woman, and child.

Romans 3:23 says, "For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God."

The Bible teaches us that we are all guilty of sin (breaking God's law). "Guilty?.... Me, Guilty?" you might ask. Ask yourself this, "Have I broken God's law?" "Thou shalt not steal." "Thou shalt not covet." (Covet means to desire what's not yours.) "Thou shalt not bear false witness." (lie) Have you ever broken even one of these laws of God?

James 2:10 says, "For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all."

In other words, once we've broken one of God's laws, we are guilty of breaking them all. We deserve God's judgment. Whenever someone is guilty in a court of law they must pay the penalty.

The penalty of our sin is death, but this is where the gospel - "the good news" - comes in! God made a way for our penalty to be paid! In the Old Testament of the Bible, there were many events that took place where an animal was sacrificed. The animal's blood was shed as a payment for sin. The Bible teaches us that these sacrifices were a picture of what Jesus Christ would do for us! A little over 2,000 years ago, Jesus Christ, the Son of God, came to earth. He lived a sinless life; for he was God and yet a man. He was crucified, which means he was tortured and hung on a tree to slowly die. Right before he died He said, "It is Finished", and then he died. The price for sin was now finished, it was paid for. His body was placed in a tomb, but three days later he rose from the dead! He paid the price for our sin and now offers us eternal life. His blood was shed as the one and only payment for your sin.

Ephesians 1:7 says, "In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace;" and Ephesians 2:8-9 says, "For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast."

You see, no one can be good enough to pay for their sin. We will just sin again and again. But Jesus shed his blood as the one and only payment for the sin of every man, woman, and child ever born. (Hebrews 10:10) Past sins, present sins, and future sins.

You might say, "That all sounds great, but what does it mean for me?"

John 3:18 says, "He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God."

It's not enough just to recognize you are a sinner, and it's not enough just to recognize the fact that Jesus Christ died for your sin. You must recognize your sin condemns you, that you are guilty before God, and that you must believe (trust) on Jesus Christ.

Romans 10:9-10 says, "That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved." Romans 10:10 says, "For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation."

When you believe in Jesus Christ, you are confessing that your righteousness (goodness) will not pay for your sin,and that Jesus Christ blood is the only thing good enough to pay for your sin. You are believing that He was a real person, and that He rose from the dead to pay for your sin.

When you believe (fully trust) this in your heart; and confess Jesus Christ as your Lord then you will be saved!
